The Family life

Our Family consists of Ron & Carmella, 4 grown kids and 5 Grandchildren. Ron is the "farmer" among us.  He has been in  the farming business all his life--his father and grandfather and great grandfather before him farmed on this property.  Ron is also a School Bus Driver and a Firefighter/EMT with Odessa Fire Dept. and the Captain of the Rescue Squad.  Ron also serves asTown Councilman for the Town of Catharine Town Board.  He is one of 4 children of Walter and Lois (Mosher) Hoffman.  He attended college at Alfred State University.

Ron and Carmella

In 1972, Ron married Carmella (Pangallo) who he met in High School.  Since then, they have continued to grow the farm and family.  Carm is a Town Clerk/collector and the owner/operator of Sunset View Creamery.  It is her job to make the cheese and market it.  She is also a Firefighter/EMT with Odessa Fire Dept. and currently the Secretary.  Carm attended the Computer Programming Institute of Binghamton and graduated as a programmer.  She has done many things in life, but, programming isn't one of them!!  She is the only child of Angelo and Audrey (Edger) Pangallo.  When Angelo married Gloria (Carpenter), Carm was fortunate enough to have 2 half sisters to grow up with (Angela May and Pamela Kelly).

Nicole

Nicole (the first born) came along in 1973.  She is a RN/Paramedic and has taken back to the skys as she's working for LifeNetNY to fly as a flight nurse (rescue helicopter) from the new Sidney base.   In her spare time, she is a Firefighter/Paramedic in the Odessa Fire Department/Rescue Squad.  She is single, loves life.   Niki just recently moved "back home" and lives in the apartment next to Valerie's house.  With this move, we now have all four of our kids within "yellin" distance of the farm.

Christina

Christina was born in 1976 and is an RN in the OB department of Arnot-Ogden Medical Center in Elmira.  Chris married Randy Hoyt and gave the family our first grandchild.  Macelyn Marie was born on 9/29/01--unfortunately, she passed away shortly after birth.  In 2002, Chris and Randy gave us grandchild #2--a girl--Taryn Elizabeth, who is bound to be the next farmer in the family. Each day she check's to see if "Poppi" is milking so she can come milk with him.  We have decided that she can do a tour better than most of us--and she gives all the highlights!  We titled her tours "Tour De Taryn" .   Taryn is in 2nd  grade this year and loves going to school.  In 2005 Austin Nikoah came along--he is our "quiet" lover!  He thinks the tractors are "sexy" and loves riding when he can. He is in Kindergarten this fall and is excited to be able to ride the school bus with "sissy".   Chris and Randy are lucky enough to have bought a home right across the road from the farm, so the grandchildren are "very near"!!   Randy works nearby at the local sawmill and they are both Firefighters and Chris is an EMT.  Chris is currently active in the Odessa Fire Department.

Valerie

Valerie came next in 1979.  She is currently a Clinical Assistant in the ICU of Arnot-Ogden Medical Center, and is looking for a Phys. Ed teaching position (Val graduated from SUNY Cortland as a Physical Education Major in May of 2009).  She coachs Modified Boys Soccer and JV Softball at Odessa-Montour Central School and helped with 5th grade girls basketball .  Valerie married Shaun Cannon and have given us 3 more grandchildren.  Shaun's daughter Margaret is a beautiful young teenager (she'll make her dad gray very soon) who lives with her mom in Watkins Glen. Mackenzie Lynn was born in 2004 and is in 1st grade this fall.  She is our little "scholar".  She is articulate with words and acts like the "mother hen" with her brother.   Because of the time they spend at the farm, the kids are all wonderful with the animals and with customers who want to tour.  Braiden William was born in 2006 (our Easter baby).  He thinks tractors are sexy, like Austin, and steals Poppi's tractor books just as soon as they hit the table.  He knows every piece of equipment by name and would ride until the "cows came home" if his mom and dad would let him. He is waiting to see if he gets into Pre-K this fall (on the waiting list).  Val and Shaun are fortunate to have purchased  a house on the corner across from the farm, so they too are close enough for the kids to see what is going on at the farm. Val and Shaun are also Firefighters although they currently aren't running with a department because of time commitments. Shaun is the manager of a plumbing supply store in Watkins Glen.

Jeremy

Jeremy--our only son is the next generation to run the farm. He was born in 1981.  He is a Firefighter/EMT and an assistant Chief in the Odessa Fire Department.  He is also a School Bus Driver for Odessa Montour Central School.  Jeremy served our country in the Army National Guard for 6 years.  During those years, he saw action in Iraq for a year and spent some time in Germany.  In the fall of 2007, Jeremy had an unfortunate Motor Vehicle Accident and spent 2 1/2 months in the hospital in Syracuse, NY.  His prognosis wasn't good, but he has proven the doctors all wrong and is doing wonderfully.  He is able to get around on his own,  and can once again operate all of the equipment on the farm.  We look forward to the day when he is 100% again, but in the meantime, we just keep offering our support and prayers.  Jeremy purchased a home just down the road from the farm.  His purchase, completed the "family corner".   On May 29, 2010, Jeremy gave us our first (and only) Daughter-in-law. Bethany comes from a background of farming and is a welcomed addition to our farm life.  She helps out with calf care and some of the cow "stuff".  She now splits her time between the cows and the creamery.  Welcome aboard Beth- being part of this family can sure be a "ride"!
